This move comes on the backdrop of several complaints lodged by the parents and stakeholders regarding the functioning of certain government schools across the State. According to the new guidelines, strict action will be taken against those who take leave without giving prior information through proper channel.
A senior department official told DT Next the new rules also mandates that teaching and non-teaching staff remain in the school campus until all the classes are over. “Henceforth, teachers coming late by 15 minutes will also be marked as absent,” he said.
“We have received several complaints that non-teaching staff and teachers come late often, thereby violating the rules. Similarly, they take off without giving leave application. This severely affects the students,” the official pointed out.
He said that the school authorities should also ensure that all the teachers take classes according to the stipulated periods. “We have asked the school management to furnish periodical reports of their daily routine to the district education office,” he added.
Stating that family pension will be cut for those who face departmental action for wrong doings, he said the new guidelines will come into effect immediately.
According to the official, the government has also decided not to give extension to teachers from next academic year onwards. The government’s move came after the Finance Department questioned why there should be an extension when excess teachers are already there.
At present, teachers are given extension if they retire in the middle of the academic year. It has been decided to scrap the extension period, he added.
