It may be recalled that the group held its first heritage walk last month with 50 participants from different parts of the State and neighbouring Bengaluru.
Following the good response, another heritage walk was planned. While 50 registered for the second walk, the number of participants swelled to more than 65, after interested persons, including five doctors from CMC hospital, joined.
“The group covered a distance of 10 km in Vellore district. We started at 7.40 am and returned with content at 7.30 pm,” Tamilvannan said.
The trip started with a visit to the Bagavathi hill behind Velapadi in Vellore town where the trekkers saw, “Tamil Nadu’s largest foot print from the Jain era.”
Referring to this, Tamilvanan said, “The footprint was 23 feet in length. Nobody knows why the footprint was created at that specific spot. But we spotted coconut shards in that area, which indicated someone had performed pooja there.”
The group also visited the ‘early man’ cave and a tarn void of sunlight. After visiting the site, the group left for Potuthakku village 10 km away from the magnificent three-tiered Jain bed.
But, the group became disappointed on the pathetic condition of such attractions due to the inaction of government. The third heritage walk will be organised in March and Tamilvanan, also an expert numismatist, has plans to conduct an exhibition of coins in February.
