Nurses to have separate uniforms for each grade
The State Health and Family Welfare Department has introduced new uniforms for nurses and it was inaugurated by Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar on Monday. The move comes after demands made by members of the State Nurses Association.

After the nurses had made the request months ago, the Department formed a nine-member team, which included nurses’ representatives. The uniforms were then designed based on their comfort and work hours. It may be noted that 13,864 permanent nurses and 12,600 temporary nurses will benefit from this initiative.
The female Grade 1 nursing superintendents will have a pasta green saree with golden buttons on the sleeves and a nurses’ emblem, and white shoes and socks. The male superintendents will wear blue pants, a green shirt and will have golden buttons on the cuffs. They will also wear a white overcoat, black shoes and socks.
Grade 2 Nursing Superintendents will be draped in a light red saree with golden buttons on sleeves, and a pair of white shoes and socks. The male nurses will wear baby blue pants, light red shirt, white overcoat with a logo and golden buttons. They will have to wear a pair of black shoes and socks.
Women nurses with an experience of more than 10 years will wear Churidars, caps that are white and light red, a white overcoat and a pair of white shoes and socks. Their male counterparts will wear white pants, a half sleeve white shirt with a logo, an overcoat in gold colour and black shoes and socks.
Women nurses with less than 10 years of experience will wear white pants and a white shirt, a white cap, white shoes and socks. Their male counterparts get half sleeve white shirts, white pants and black shoes and socks. Staff nurses under the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will be expected to wear light red pants and shirt, white and light red cap and a name badge.
