Apollo Hospitals refutes allegations of one-man panel

On the issue of not performing an angiogram the hospital said that the chief minister was attended to by experts who did not deem the procedurenecessary.

The response added that the petition incorrectly stated that the senior doctors had advised angiogram. Apollo Hospitals stated that only one denoted specialist who saw Jayalalithaa on November 25, 2016, for a short time had suggested an immediate angiogram without considering all other co-morbidities she suffered from such as a compromised respiratory condition.

The hospital questioned why the Commission was ignoring testimonies of the many specialists and technicians and supporting medical evidence to focus on the advice of one specialist whose suggestion was not in agreement with other doctors and one whom wanted to perform the procedure and leave without any commitment to follow-up care. 

Incorrect recording of the time

On the issue of registering duration for the sternotomy, Apollo stated that Dr Madan Kumar had pointed out an incorrect recording of the time mentioned in his statement which has again been produced in the petition to level allegations against the doctor and hospital.

Apollo Hospitals pointed out further errors in registering terminology and names of treatment and that the errors reiterate their stance that the Commission must be assisted by a medical board in order to decipher the cache of documents submitted to it.

The hospital once again stated that they stand by the treatment provided to Jayalalithaa and that internationally recognised protocol was followed by all doctors and that specialises in AIIMS are also in agreement with the course of action taken by the doctors.

The hospital also questioned why the Commission is itself filing petitions against other parties and that the proceedings of the Commission must not be accusatory or adversarial in nature.
