Mishap kills 2 padayatris in Thoothukudi
A vehicle went out of control and hit devotees during a padayatra, killing two persons and injuring two others, in Thoothukudi on Thursday.

The incident occurred at 10:45 am near Pullaveli under the limits of Authoor police. Sources said that the victims were undertaking padayatra from Sattur to Tiruchendur when it occurred. Both the deceased and the injured victims hailed from Kalingapatti village of Sattur Block in Virudhunagar district.
The car, which ran out of control, hit the padayatris from behind. Its driver, T Muthuraj (27) of Katcheri Thalavaipuram, was arrested, they added.
The deceased, identified as S Vetrivel (47) and Parvathi (55), died on the way to the hospital. The injured, identified as Thangamariammal (45) and Jeyalakshmi (46), were admitted to the Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital.
As many as 40 devotees from the same village had undertaken the padayatra, sources added. Based on a complaint by Jeyalakhsmi, one of the injured, a case was filed under sections 279, 337 and 304(A) of the IPC.
