According to the protesters, the BJP cadre had uprooted a CPM flag pole and attempted to set it on fire at Varadarajapuram. They also reportedly damaged the board put up by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) in the same neighbourhood.

The members of the left parties caught hold of two persons responsible for the incident and handed them over to the police.

In another incident, miscreants vandalized a flag pole of CPI party on Kamarajar Road in Singanallur. The entry of two women into the shrine led to protests in Coimbatore district.
