According to police, Ranganath, 42, the Hindu outfit’s district vice president and a resident of Denkanikottai was fast asleep with his family, when the culprits targeted his house around 2 am.

On hearing some noise, Ranganath rushed out and found raging fire on the walls and two-wheelers parked in front of the house being engulfed in fire. As neighbours attempted to douse the fire by pouring water, the fire and rescue personnel also joined their efforts and put it out swiftly. All the three two-wheelers and a cycle were gutted in the fire.

A police team led by Denkanikottai DSP Sangeetha visited the scene of the crime and held inquiries. Fingerprint experts lifted chance prints. Based on a complaint, the police have registered a case and further inquiries are on.

Police suspect the attack could be an outcome of some controversial Facebook posts made by the VHP functionary on Sabarimalai issue and regarding the conviction of AIADMK Minister Balakrishna Reddy.

As Ranganath is also employed as a manager in a stone quarry, police are also probing to know, if the attack happened due to enmity. Further investigations are on.
