The TASMAC shop in Kakalur has been operating at the venue for over two years. On Wednesday night, Shanmugam, the shop’s supervisor and his helper closed the day’s business, locked the shop a few minutes after 10 pm and went home.

When they returned to the shop on Thursday morning, they found that the unidentified miscreants had broken one of the walls of the TASMAC shop and entered the shop.

Following a complaint, the Kakalur police rushed to the shop and conducted inquiries. “We found that liquor bottles worth Rs 20,000 have gone missing from the shop, and that the burglars did not get away with cash as there was no money stored in the shop at night,” a police official said.

Police suspect local gangs to be behind the heist. The Kakalur police officials have registered a case and are questioning suspects.
