SETC sells 14,551 tickets online, generates Rs 69 lakh in a single day

Setting a new record, nearly 14,551 online bus tickets were booked on Wednesday, generating a revenue of Rs 69.02 lakh for the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC). The overwhelming demand for SETC buses comes after they were listed on leading private travel apps last month.

In total, the corporation earned around Rs 608.02 lakh after selling 1.25 lakh tickets between January 10 and 20. “We are receiving a good response this time. Although the online facility was available for the past eight years, the booking activities were restricted within the official website of the corporation. In order to check the drop in patronage, SETC buses were listed on Red Bus and other private booking apps since the second week of December. It is working in our favor,” said a senior official attached to SETC.

“Commuters can compare the fares with other private operators only to realise that tickets are priced at the nominal rate. Although exact figures are not available with us, the increase in patronage is evident,” he said.

Last year, around 4.92 lakh passengers travelled on government buses and this year the authorities expect the numbers to climb up to 6 lakh.

SETC operates more than 1,100 buses to various places within the city. It plies along 250 routes to provide connectivity with the neighbouring states, including Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
