17 more CCTVs added to Salem bus terminus

Launching the new facility, Salem City Police Commissioner K Shankar on Friday said that the crowd and traffic issues can be monitored from the traffic control room and sorted out immediately. 

“The movement of criminals can also be monitored and action would be initiated against them. As part of increasing surveillance, the CCTV’s were being fixed across Salem city to identify, track and arrest anti-social elements. The movement of criminals has already come under control due to enhanced CCTV monitoring,” he told reporters. 

Pointing out that large number of police personnel has been deployed to curb criminal activities during Pongal, the Commissioner said, “A special team has been constituted to keep track of ex-convicts and offenders, who may come to Salem from other districts.” 

A temporary traffic control room has been set up at the Salem new bus stand and CCTVs have been linked to the monitors for cops to maintain round the clock watch. 

Apart from the CCTV’s, 17 loud speakers were fixed at the bus terminus to make announcements. Moreover, seven surveillance cameras and seven loud speakers were fixed at Kondalampatty junction. The garbage dump yard has been cleaned and converted into a place for parking special buses to be operated for the Pongal festival.
