College teachers, non-teaching staff on indefinite strike in Pondicherry

Teachers and non-teaching staff of the colleges functioning under societies in the  Union Territory of Puducherry Including  Pondicherry Engineering College and  Indira Gandhi Government medical college and Research Institute went on an indefinite strike on Friday to press their demands.

They were demanding the  implementation of the 7th pay commission recommendations and provision of the 6th pay commission Dearness Allowance arrears.

As many as 4000 employees of 18 colleges here struck work and observed a dharna here.

It may be noted that  the government has taken a decision at a cabinet meeting recently to implement  the 7th pay commission commendations to the government college staff  and Chief Minister V Narayanasamy announced that the case of the society college teachers would be considered later.
