1 body retrieved from dam, another missing
A man’s body was recovered from the Sathanur dam on Saturday after he along with another man went missing following a fight on its banks on Friday night with fishermen carrying out operations illegally.

The deceased was identified as Senthil (27) while the other missing person was Santosh (25).
The duo, along with Silambarasan (27), Mudiappan (47) and Murthy (45), all hailing from nearby villagers, were appointed to keep a watch on illegal fishing in the dam, since the fishing rights were auctioned to a private contractor for over Rs 1 crore. The illegally caught fishes were sold at cheap rates and it affected the income of the contractor, police said.
On Friday night, the team was on patrol when they spotted some persons fishing illegally. Soon, a chase ensued and a fight followed. The team of five was outnumbered and assaulted by the fishers. Finally, they took to their heels. While, three of them escaped safely, the fates of Santosh and Senthil remained unknown.
On information, Sathanur dam police, Chengam police and Revenue officials sought the help of Fire Service personnel, and a rescue mission ensued. Senthil’s body was fished out on Saturday from the reservoir while the search continues for Santosh. A case has been registered and investigation is on.
