2 arrested for guards’ death in Sathanur dam

Sathanur dam police arrested two persons in connection with the death of two guards who drowned after jumping into the dam to escape the attack by illegal fishermen, on Monday.

According to sources, a five-member team while patrolling the dam on Friday night was confronted by a gang that was fishing in the water body. Since the gang was more in numbers than the patrol team, the guards took to their heels. While, three of them managed to escape, two members of the patrol team Santosh and Senthil drowned.

On information, Sathanur dam police, Chengam police and Revenue officials sought the help of Fire Service personnel, and a rescue mission ensued. Later, fire service personnel fished out the bodies of Senthil and Santhosh on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Immediately, the relatives of the deceased blocked Sathanur dam road demanding the arrest of the culprits. Following this, police picked up five persons from the locality for interrogation.

After questioning, two persons, Mohan (45), son of Subramani of Anaimangalam village, and Siva (43), son of Kannu of Kariyamangalam, were arrested in connection with the death of the duo.

A case has been registered and investigation to identify other members of the gang continues.
