3,000 log on to Police-E-Eye app

The ‘Police-E-Eye’ app launched by Coimbatore police has received an overwhelming response as more than 3,000 people have downloaded it and over 600 persons have reported violations resulting in police collecting a fine amount of Rs 1.35 lakh within a fortnight.

The first of its kind app, which helps the public to directly report on violations, was launched on January 7. From the day of launch till January 20, a total of 3,010 persons have downloaded the app on their mobile phones. 


“So far, 605 persons have uploaded photos of traffic violations in various parts of the city. Most of the violations pertain to parking of vehicles in no parking zone, helmetless driving, riding two-wheeler in triples, using a cell phone while riding and footboard travel on buses,” said Sujit Kumar, Deputy Commissioner (Traffic). 


After verification, challans were handed over to the violators. “A team of ten cops have been formed to issue challan by visiting the house of the violators. Till now, a fine amount of Rs 1.35 lakh has been collected from the violators,” he added. 


The senior cop also said that awareness will be created among college students to download the app to increase its usage. “If need arises the police would make a verification with the complainant,” said a policeman.
