The council will prepare 2,500 students in their second year at the government-run District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) centres.

The SCERT has planned to conduct TET coaching during the weekends. According to a senior official, the students will be selected based on their performance in their current DIET course.

“We want to ensure that all the students, who attend the TET coaching, face TET confidently and clear the exam,” he said. The official said the training programme for students will enhance their content knowledge and provide them with requisite strategies to improve the pass percentage in TET, which is conducted by the State government.

“The coaching will be given in various subjects, including child development and pedagogy, language I (Tamil), English, Mathematics and Environmental studies,” the official pointed out.

According to the official, the coaching programme in child development and pedagogy will focus on educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the 6 – 11 age group. Language I will focus on the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction.

English will focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities. Mathematics and Environmental Studies will focus on the concepts, problem solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of these subjects. Stating that learning materials and other coaching kits will be provided to the students free of cost, the official said: “A course completion certificate will also be given to the students.”

In addition, model question papers have been uploaded on the website to enable students to write the mock examination at their own convenient time and then assess their achievement level, the official added.
