Cong endorses 10 pc quota, but questions timing
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Su Thirunavukkarasar on Sunday endorsed the 10 per cent reservation for economically weak other castes persons legislated by the ruling BJP as a “good scheme.”

However, he questioned the timing of the implementation and alleged that it was done by the BJP-led Centre for votes.
Talking to reporters at Sathyamurthy Bhavan here on Sunday, Thirunavukkarasar said, “It is a good scheme. Let the poor among other castes enjoy it. But it has been done for votes, keeping in mind the forward community base.” Asked about the party’s national unit supporting the quota and the state unit criticising it here, the TNCC chief said, “Everyone can compete in open category, but none can compete in the 10 per cent earmarked for the economically weak other castes. Hence, we in the state say SC/ST and OBCs are affected.”
He also said the Congress supports the 10 per cent as well as the 69 per cent reservations.
