Thirumavalavan, in a statement, said, “Nanaji Deshmukh was a staunch RSS leader. When Janasangh, the political wing of RSS, was started Deshmukh played a crucial role in taking the party to the people.”

He said that Deshmukh founded Saraswathi Sishu Mandhir, chain of schools, to impart Sanathana Dharma to school students, in 1952, and today the chain of schools is run by the RSS. There are also charges against him that Deshmukh supported the killings of Sikhs in 1984 anti-Sikh riots, said Thirumavalavan. He also said that Deshmukh supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Gujarat Riots in 2002. “When thousands of Muslims were killed in Gujarat riots in 2002, Deshmukh was Rajya Sabha MP and supported Narendra Modi during the riots even when former Prime Minister Vajpayee did not extend support for Modi,” he said.

Thirumavalavan further said that so far 48 persons had received Bharat Ratna and among them 60 per cent were Caste Hindus. “The very intention of the award had been changed and it is now decided by politics,” he said.
