Villagers impound bus protesting irregular drinking water supply

Irked by the lack of drinking water supply for nearly one month, residents of a village near Vaniyambadi impounded a government bus in protest on Tuesday.

Police said that residents of Madanancheri near Vaniyambadi were angered that despite their repeated pleas for provision of drinking water for over one month, no action was taken by the officials.


In a sudden move, nearly 200 residents blocked the Vaniyambadi-Thimmampet Road and impounded a government (TNSTC) bus coming that way. When news reached Vaniyambadi taluk police they rushed to the spot and pacified the public promising to get the concerned officials to act. Based on the assurance, the agitators dispersed and allowed the bus to continue on its journey. The agitation resulted in traffic being affected for more than an hour inthe area.


Similarly, residents of Kalmelkuppam near Ranipet were annoyed at irregular water supply to their area for more than 6 months. Disturbed that their petitions to top officials, including the Vellore Collector, failed to have any effect, nearly 300 local residents blocked the Arcot – Kalpudur Road affecting traffic for nearly two hours.


Ranipet police pacified the agitators and said that their demands would be met shortly. Then they dispersed.
