The actor-politician also appointed the general secretary, treasurer and other office bearers for the UT wing. The development in the party came as the MNM is all set to celebrate its first anniversary since its launch on February 21 last year.

Speaking at the launch event at the party headquarters in Chennai, Kamla assured that the party would list out the needs of the union territory and fulfil them. “Our vision is to work in all the places where Tamilians live,” he said.

Kamal also hinted about contesting the Assembly elections in Puducherry and said that the party would make necessary arrangements before the elections.

Expressing his ambition to take Tamil Nadu to new heights, Kamal said, “the goal is achievable, and we will achieve it. Voters should also elect honest representatives without accepting money for votes.”

Further, while welcoming the decision to end the protest called by government employees and teachers, the MNM chief alleged that the government has failed to address the issue and their grievances.

On election alliance, Kamal said that the party’s executive committee has given him the power to decide on the alliance. “We are deliberating and discussing the alliance. We don’t want to carry other’s laundry. We need good friends but not the desperate ones,” he said.

Increasing speculations that the MNM might join the UPA alliance, Kamal lashed out at right-wing politics over the Babri Masjid issue and welcomed Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s announcement of guaranteed income for the poor if UPA comes to power. “The dream of Rahul Gandhi is a great and worthwhile dream. I hope he succeeds,” Kamal said.
