Tourists, who waited for their turnto board the boat, were disappointedafter the officials from Poompuhar Shipping Corporation had cancelled the service.
According to official sources, the sea was unusually rough with high tides and there was no other option but to cancel the services considering the safety of tourists.
Normally, passenger ferry services would commence at 8 am and go on till 4 pm every day. But, the inclement weather conditions at sea prevented the boats from engaging in its routine.
However, the ferry service, which was operated for some hours, started around 2,30 p.m. and ended at 3.45 p.m.
Passengers sailed from shore to the Vivekanandar Rock. The current period being an off season, the inflow of tourists is low. The volume of visitors will be generally high during April and May, the vacationperiod. Currently, there are three boats operating between shore and the Vivekanandar Rock.
Sources added that, the Tamil Nadu Maritime Board was contemplating to introduce one more boat. However, it requires another jetty asberthing space is inadequate to accommodate onemore boat.
