Fraudster steals jewels from ailing woman

According to police, Vijayalakshmi (54), wife of Loganathan employed in TNEB and a resident of Nellorepet was suffering from some ailment and she had consulted many doctors without avail.

A youth, who was aware of the woman’s condition, visted her house, when Loganathan was away and told Vijayalakshmi that he was a magician sent by her husband to cure her health problems. Believing his words, she let the youth into the house. In the guise of performing poojas for her health, he asked her to remove the jewels and place them in a vessel. As instructed, Vijayalakshmi removed her ornaments, which weighed around 10 sovereign, and placed them inside the vessel. Later, the youth asked her to wash her feet. When she went to the bathroom, the youth fled with the jewels.

Upon returning to the room, she was shocked to find the youth and jewels missing. Realising that she has been cheated, Vijayalakshmi informed about the incident to Loganathan. Later, the couple lodged a complaint with the Gudiyattam town police. Police started investigations by checking the CCTV footage installed on nearby premises.
