According to sources, the animal entered the locked house belonging to Rayan, a farmer, through a gap in the rear wall. Rayan (70) and his wife, who were away for two days, were shocked to find the animal lying beneath the cot upon returning home.
“The couple came home around noon. Rayan heard a furious cry of the animal and eventually discovered the animal’s presence. The couple then rushed out and locked the house from outside,” police said.
As the news spread, many villagers gathered in front of the house to catch a glimpse of the carnivore. Panic moments prevailed as some of them tried to peep through the gap in the door.
On receiving information, a team of Forest Department personnel arrived and surrounded the house. They also sent away the villagers from the spot, before placing a cage to trap the animal. “The leopard, aged around three years, is healthy,” said a official, adding that it was later released safely into a nearby forest.
