Ramachandran, a resident of Valluvar Nagar, has three daughters including Lathika. Lathika was put to sleep in her cradle the night before. However, Ramachandran, a septic tank lorry driver, found the cradle empty after coming home early on Friday after his night shift.

Alarmed by the disappearance, Ramachandran along with his wife Sandhiya started searching for the baby in the neighbourhood. As they could not trace Lathika, Ramachandran approached the Tiruverambur All Women Police Station and lodged a complaint.

The police, who registered a case, then rushed to the spot and started their investigation. Preliminary inquiry has revealed that Sandhiya came out around midnight to give the house key to one of her neighbours, who had returned home after an outstation visit. While heading back to sleep, she forgot to close the doors properly.

Based on this information, police officers are investigating the whereaboutsof the baby.

Sources said there haveprior incidents of children allegedly being kidnappedin the locality.
