According to police, Selvakumar (50) from Virudhunagar and Kanadasan (30) from Manaparai, both were on their way to Chennai via Vaniyambadi after transporting cigarette load from Guntur to Hosur.
Meanwhile, a gang of six persons with a plan to rob the cigarettes load came in two lorries and blocked the lorry of Kannadasan near Vaniyambadi and attacked him. Some members of the gang then tied up Kannadasan in the lorry and drove the vehicle towards Vellore. Meanwhile, Selvakumar, who was following Kanadasan’s vehicle tried to contact him but in vain.
While Selvakumar was in Pallikonda, he spotted Kanadasan’s vehicle and tried to overtake it. But, the gang blocked Selvakumar’s vehicle also in the same manner they did with Kannadasan’s vehicle.
The gang attacked Selvakumar also and enquired about the cigarettes load. When both the drivers said that they had already delivered the load at the destination, the six men threw Selvakumar on the highway in Ocheri, 50 km from Vellore and Kanadasan at Sumaithangi, near Wallajahpet check-post. The lorries that were driven by Selvakumar and Kanadasan were abandoned two km away from where the two drivers were dumped by the gang. Pallikonda police registered a case.
