The deceased has been identified as Tamilarasan, a daily wage earner and son of Mathiazhagan of the Saidapet. Suspecting it to be a murder due to gang rivalry, police said that Tamilarasan left his house on Tuesday night and did not return for a long time. Following this, his parents searched for Tamilarasan in various places, but could not find him.

On Wednesday morning, police got information from some locals that a body of a man with stab injuries was lying on service road at Melvisharam. Then cops informed about the body to parents of Tamilarasan, who came and confirmed that it was their son. As a few broken beer bottles and blood stains of the history-sheeter were found on road dividers, police suspect that the deceased after being stabbed must have run for his life through the service road.

A police dog, Simba, that was brought to the spot, ran for a short distance from the crime scene and stopped. The Wednesday case has shocked Vellore residents as the murder of Pichaiperumal, another history-sheeter, who was also suspected to have been killed due to gang rivalry, still remains unsolved. Pichaiperumal, a relative of Tamilarasan, was found dead with his face smashed on Palar bed at Kangeyanallur a few months ago.  Police are investigating in different angles to find out if Tamilarasan’s deathly has any links to gang rivalry.
