Villagers of Kunjampalayam in Edappadi came together to gift one lakh worth materials to enhance the infrastructure in the village school.

Just like the family members of the bride going in procession to present seervarisai, the villagers marched towards the school carrying chair, table, huge cans to store water, a portrait of Kamarajar and a speaker to air national anthem. The procession was led by a troupe playing the drums on Friday.

On reaching the school, the gift items were placed beneath a tree on the campus as it would be displayed in front of the marriage hall. The villagers then presented the kalvi seervarisai (education gift) to the school headmistress Tamil Selvi, who profusely thanked them for helping to improve the amenities in the institution.

District Elementary Assistant Education Officer (DEEO) Vijaya said that the villagers have contributed willingly for the welfare of the children studying inthe school.

“The students would be motivated to study well if they were provided with better infrastructure and good environment. It was a collective effort by villagers to uplift the school,”she said.

In a similar laudable initiative, villagers gave ‘kalvi seervarisai’ of Rs 2 lakh to a Government Middle School near Omalur on Friday. It had a wide range of gifts from bureau, chair, table, note books, pens, pencils and sports equipment. Here too the villagers went in procession and gave away their presents to the school teachers.

Not to stop with it, the villagers have also pledged to regularly contribute for the upgradation of the school.
