Sources said the TNCC chief has not split the party into different zones. Instead, he has allocated the responsibility of overseeing party activities in central and delta districts to H Vasanthakumar. K Jayakumar has been entrusted with the northern districts, a couple of delta districts, besides a few frontal organisations.

Former Cheyyar MLA and former TNCC chief Krishanasamy’s son Vishnu Prasad has been made in-charge of northern and Arcot districts.

Mohan Kumaramangalam and former State chief of Youth Congress Mayura Jayakumar would supervise the party’s functioning in western and southern districts respectively.

Alagiri has instructed the district presidents and other office bearers to cooperate with the working presidents to intensify the election-related works. He, however, has not clarified the nature of task assigned to the working presidents.

The appointment, party districts opine, could result in better coordination, but may backfire when a senior district president crosses path with the young presidents put in-charge in Arcot, southern and western districts.

Also, they said the working presidents must have a better rapport with the respective DMK functionaries in the areas allotted to them to improve their electoral chances.
