Addressing reporters after presiding over a consultative meeting with the party cadre in Tirunelveli on Sunday, Vasantha Kumar said that the Congress would at least seek 16 seats from its key ally DMK in the upcoming elections.

Among those constituencies, he named three, including Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar in the southern region and Tiruchy in the central region. He said that the 2019 elections would be a turning point in the political history for the party as the number of constituency it would be contesting could also increase.

Priyanka Gandhi would launch her campaign in Tamil Nadu ahead of the polls, he informed.

He said his foremost duty is to make Congress president Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister. “With all cooperation from the party leaders and workers, necessary efforts will be taken towards achieving victory for the DMK-led coalition,” he said.
