According to police, Ammu (30), was married to Rajesh, a resident of Kil Kuppam near Arakkonam. On January 14, when Ammu was in her ninth month of pregnancy, Rajesh went to a nearby shop while Ammu’s sari inadvertently caught fire in the kitchen.

On hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the house and admitted her to the Arakkonam General Hospital. She was later shifted to Chennai Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for further treatment. After receiving treatment, she was discharged.

On February 13, Ammu got delivery pain and she was admitted to private hospital. She delivered a boy baby but the baby died shortly. Two days later Ammu also succumbed.

Since Ammu and her baby died one after the other and as Rajesh and Ammu were married for less than five years, a magisterial enquiry has been ordered by the Ranipet sub collector.
