AIADMK leader Pollachi Jayaraman, who attended the meeting, urged the CEO to recommend for a single phase polls in the state. The AIADMK also demanded the public election department not to restrict the summer drinking water projects citing model code of conduct. “The DMK has raised objections to the double and multiple entries in voters roll and specific examples have been given in connection with RK Nagar constituency,” DMK’s north Chennai functionary R Girirajan said.
The CEO has assured action against multiple entries and he had also requested the political parties to register complaints to the district election officers. There are several mistakes in voters roll and the DMK has requested an error free voter roll for a free and fair poll, Girirajan said.
“Keeping in view of the impending general elections to Lok Sabha, 2019, the EC should carry out voters roll corrections,” CPI leader Periyasamy said. The CPI also urged the election department to install drinking water facilities at all polling stations and ensure that the public friendly amenities are in place in all polling booths.
It may be noted that that the EC will organise two-day special camps on February 23 andFebruary 24 for those whose names have been missing in the voters roll.
