State ties up US, UK firms for tech transfer

To improve standard of education in the state, Tamil Nadu government will tie-up with firms in United States and UK to bring their latest technology to various departments including in School and Higher education at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore. This includes the method of teaching, improving the classroom infrastructure and facelift for science labs among others.

Virginia Tech India Centre for Advanced Research and Education and Pontaq-UK India will help Tamil Nadu in transferring its technology in blockchain, internet of things and artificial intelligence, said a statement from the government. Similarly, Pontaq (UK India Innovation Fund) will focus on promoting technology transfer and support services to Tamil Nadu government and its projects.

The aim is to bridge the digital divide that exist between those living in rural and urban areas, educated and uneducated, between economic classes, and, on a global scale, it added. The two entities will also focus on research and development activities in government departments.

In the education sector, the agreement will help organise a series of workshops and seminars for school and college students involving experts in various academic topics.
