Additional trains sought to connect Pearl City

The Thoothukudi District Passengers Welfare Association has sought the introduction of additional trains to various destinations from the district, to cater to the growing needs of passengers.

The demand for a new train to Kollam via Vanchi Maniyachi bypass, Tirunelveli jn and Sengottai has been long pending. Secretary of the Association, M Piramanayagam, said that once this service is introduced, it would boost connectivity between the Pearl City and Kerala. It would also benefit the tourism sector, he added.


Further, he stressed on the need for reduction of travel time of the Thoothukudi- Mysuru express. The Association sought the introduction of a daily MEMU train connecting Thiruvananthapuram via Tirunelveli jn and Nagercoil.


It also demanded extension of Palaruvi express to Thoothukudi. A memorandum in this regard has been submitted to S Anantharaman, Chief Operation Manager, SR, Chennai, he said.
