Addressing reporters at Chennai airport, Thambidurai said, “On the occasion of birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa, we have pledged to defeat the opportunistic alliance formed by the DMK and the Congress. By defeating the alliance, we can bring good schemes and initiatives to the state.”

He also said that they have functioned as Opposition party in the Parliament as was expected by late chief minister J Jayalalithaa and raised some of the key issues in the Parliament such as Cauvery, NEET and so on.

However, now the alliance is based on the promises made by the BJP-led Central government that they will not act against the welfare of the state. “Recently the BJP government informed the Supreme Court that they will not permit Karnataka to construct Mekedatu dam. Based on the promises we have formed the alliance,” he said.

He also said that their important objective is to implement welfare schemes and the only possibility to bring welfare for the state is to ensure that the AIADMK continues in the power.
