He announced his decision to quit the post of State Vice-President at a press conference in Coimbatore.

“I am pained that the PMK has aligned with the AIADMK after campaigning against it for several years. I am also shocked that the party has thrown away its principles and ideology for seven seats offered by the ruling party. After fighting for prohibition, the PMK has now gone to work with those selling liqour,” he said.

Claiming that the PMK has cheated people, Ranjith said the party has surrendered itself at the feet of AIADMK.

“Anbumani led big demonstrations and attacked AIADMK using unparliamentarily words. People will never accept their alliance. On what basis will they go to people to ask votes?,” he asked.

He also termed the ten point charter of demands put forth by the PMK for joining the AIADMK alliance as a 'joke'.
