The temporary market was set up as the roof of the original facility collapsed on two occasion due to rain. It was later shifted to a temporary location for the convenience of customers and to ensure livelihood of traders. A new shopping complex was being constructed to replace the old market. It may be noted that HR & CE minister Sevoor S Ramachandran provided the temporary site for the market.
However, consumers were taken aback when they found the gates of temporary market locked on Tuesday. On getting information about the closure of the market, municipal officials rushed to the spot and called the traders for talks. Vendors claimed that those shops situated near the entrance alone made good business as buyers hesitated to walk till the end of the new market. So, others located further inside failed to get adequate number of customers.
When reports last came in, municipal officials were in talks with the traders in an attempt to arrive at an amicable solution to the dispute between two groups due to which the market was closed
