In the third installment of the scheme on Wednesday, Dr Christina Dorothy distributed gold coins to 1, 400 women beneficiaries at Vellore.
Later interacting with the media, she assured that the cash component of Rs 50,000 would be credited into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries shortly.
Conveying that Vellore district has the highest number of beneficiaries under the scheme, the officer warned that stringent action would be taken if the lower rank government officials or brokers demanded bribes from beneficiaries.
Christina said that for 2018-19, arrangements were made for the distribution of 8-gram gold coin and Rs 50,000 cash for 4,400 beneficiaries in Vellore district. However, in the first instalment 707 beneficiaries were issued gold coins on January 22, and in the second phase 2,293 beneficiaries were provided the gold coin in 20 panchayat unions. When asked about the delay in the distribution of the cash component, she said, while gold coins were distributed the delayed in the distribution of the cash component is due to the heavy workload in the treasury offices. The department has handed over the details of all the beneficiaries to the treasuries and now we are expecting the treasuries to remit the cash component in individual accounts, she added.
