In a statement here, the Chief Minister said the Committee would be headed by Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department Additional Chief
Secretary Hans Raj Verma. The committee would have Adi Dravidar Welfare department Additional Chief Secretary and Law Department Secretary as its members.
The government would take necessary action after receipt of the committee's report, he added.
The committee would go into the demand of clubbing the six sub-castes--Pallar, Kudumbar, Pannadi, Kaalaadi, Kadayar, Devendrakulatar--as Devendrakula Vellalars.
Puthiya Tamizhagam leader Dr K Krishnasamy has been demanding that they should be excluded from the Scheduled Caste (SC) list.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while launching BJP election meeting in Madurai last month, said "I want to talk to you about one more issue. This is relating to the Devendrakula Vellalar community and ensuring justice as well as opportunities for them."
"The issue came to me and I am fully sensitive towards their demands," he added.
