Giant bore wells to fill Mahamagam tank inaugurated
In order to ensure water availability in the Mahamagam Theerthavari tank in Kumbakonam all round the year, the state government has initiated steps by digging borewells to the tune of Rs 19.75 lakh and the Agriculture Minister R Doraikannu launched the project on Saturday.

Since the Mahamagam tank goes dry during summer for the past few years, the devotees have been insisting the state government to ensure water availability in the tank. A fund of Rs 19.75 lakh had been allocated from the MPLAD fund by the Mayiladuthurai MP RK Bharathi Mohan.
Subsequently, two giant bore wells each with 300 feet was dug along the banks of Arasalaru from which the Mahamagam tank gets water. The bore wells were equipped with 30 kv motors which could draw 1.44 lakh litre per hour.
On Saturday, Agriculture Minister R Doraikannu inaugurated the pumping of water into the tank. After ensuring the water is filling up, the Minister offered flowers to the water in the tank. MP Bharathi Mohan presided over the function. Kumbakonam tahsildar Veerasamy and others were present on the occasion.
