14 yrs on, couple seeks DNA test on girl
In one of the rare cases, a couple from Punganur village near Arcot approached the Vellore collector on Monday seeking a DNA test on a girl, who they claimed was their daughter, belonging to another family. The couple claimed that the girl, who they saw during a function at a relative’s house, looked just like their son.

Submitting a petition to the Vellore collector on Monday seeking a DNA test on a girl child belonging to another family, Babu and Rajeswari, the couple, alleged the child was taken away from them at the time of her birth itself.
In her petition submitted to collector S A Raman, Rajeswari, who was accompanied by husband Babu, stated that she was admitted to the Government Pentland Hospital in Vellore for delivery in 2005.
Recalling the incidents that happened then in 2005, Rajeswari said, “After undergoing a caesarian section, a doctor told me that I had delivered a girl child. But sometime later, another doctor informed that I had delivered twins – a girl and a boy. Shortly thereafter, I was given a boy child, and was told that I had delivered only one child. Subsequently, I was discharged from the hospital,” Rajeswari said, adding that the hospital did not provide clear cut answers to her queries and the doctors also gave conflicting statements.
But things changed when the woman attended a function in her relative’s house last December. “I noticed a small girl who resembled my son Aravindan. When quizzed, the girl’s parents informed me that they had adopted her in 2005 from an adoption centre at Vasanthapuram in Vellore,” Rajeswari said
As the parents refused to provide her with more information, she suspected that the girl might be one of the twins she was told that she had delivered in the hospital nearly 14 years ago.
Rajeswari thus requested the Vellore collector to order for a DNA test on the girl. “If my claims are proved right, the government officials should take steps to restore the child to me,” she said.
The collector, who accepted her petition, ordered officials to investigate the issue.
