Former functionary Jayashankar (45) a resident of Paadur near Vandavasi created a flutter when he climbed atop the mobile phone tower at Kil kodungalur and shouted that he planned to commit suicide.

When local residents, who heard his words, asked him to come down, he refused, following which they informed the Kil Kodungalur police. When the police demanded to know why he wants to take the extreme step, Jayashankar threw down a two-page note.

In the note, he demanded regular salaries for all employees, regularisation of jobs and a minimum wage of Rs 350 per day for daily wage earners.

The police with the help of fire and rescue services personnel managed to bring down the ‘altruist’ safely.
