The door for the DMDK is still open and we want the party to join the AIADMK alliance at the earliest, Minister D Jayakumar told reporters on Thursday.

The DMK has insulted the DMDK. In my opinion, the DMDK will have no truck with the DMK in future. “The AIADMK poll alliance flight is ready on our side. The DMDK led by Vijayakant just have to board the flight for take-off,” Jayakumar said. When asked to comment about what if the DMDK goes alone in the Lok Sabha polls, Jayakumar who had earlier said that he will not worry if the DMDK ignores the AIADMK alliance said that it is a decision that must be taken by the DMDK. We are hoping that they will join our alliance and good news will soon come, Jayakumar added.

Meanwhile, a strong dissent is growing in the AIADMK camp asking the party leadership to ignore the DMDK. “All arrangements were made during the visit of PM Narendra Modi’s maiden rally in Chennai hoping that the DMDK will join the mega-alliance, but it disappointed us,” said an AIADMK senior.  “Giving too many seats to the alliance will only benefit the DMK. Already there are squabbles among those seeking party seats and if the DMDK joins, the AIADMK must sacrifice a few more seats. We have put forth our suggestions to the leaders that it is advisable to contest with the existing alliance partners. The DMDK vote bank was once steady ranging between 8 to 10 per cent, but in the last few elections it has eroded,” the party functionary said.
