Hitting back at Sudhish, who claimed that the DMDK district secretaries had met him for personal reasons, Duraimurugan said, “I pity their plight. I don’t want to hurt them further. They were under compulsion to deny talking to him.”
“Sudhish hails from my native. We know each other for a long time. In politics, we may join or part ways, but I am not used to speaking like them. I didn’t expect him to speak so. I have respect for him. He spoiled it,” Duraimurugan said, apparently responding to the former’s jibe that it would be indecent if he revealed the veteran’s remarks about DMK leadership.
“Yesterday, they were neither here (DMK front) nor there (AIADMK camp). To salvage some pride, they have denied talking to me under compulsion,” he added clarifying, “I don’t know Anangai Murugesan. What do we have between us to have a personal discussion?”
“They could have denied discussing alliance possibility with me yesterday when the media interviewed outside my house. I pity DMDK’s plight. I asked Murugesan why they had suddenly come to us. He said the leadership wanted to go with the AIADMK, but district secretaries wanted to go with the DMK,” Duraimurugan remarked, quoting the DMDK leaders as telling him on Wednesday that they had come with the knowledge of their leader and deputy leader.
On Sudhish claiming that Duraimurugan had made unquotable remarks about his leadership, the deputy leader of opposition said, “If he says so he’s spoiling the respect I have for him. They are speaking ill of me to somehow join the AIADMK front.
