The accused S Sooraj Kumar, 35 from Karuparayampalayam in Kalapatty area, called up Podanur police station Inspector Maheshwaran claiming to be a Deputy Commissioner in Special Task Force in Hyderabad.
In a commanding tone, Sooraj ordered the Inspector to come to arrest two persons involved in a quarrel with his mother-in-law Banumathi.
The Inspector and two cops, who rushed to the spot, had ‘saluted’ the fake IPS officer before commencing their enquiry. Even as the police were inquiring the incident, Sooraj said to cops, “Arrest the two persons and book them under IPC section 302.” The inspector was taken aback as IPC 302 is a section meant for booking accused persons involved in murder cases.
When Sooraj again insisted on the same section, police confirmed him to be an impersonator.
It was after a ‘special treatment’ at the police station, did the accused revealed his real identity to cops. He claimed to have running a computer centre in Singanallur area. His mother- in- law did not pay house rent for last eight months. When the landlord asked her for rent, she refused. It was then Sooraj threatened to arrest the land lord for harassing his family by impersonating as a police officer. Police arrested him and inquiries are on.
