Speaking to the reporters at the Secretariat, he said that the government has taken several steps to ensure that the exam centres for all the candidates appearing for the NEET exams, are allocated in the State.
“Unlike the previous year, aspirants will not be sent to the exam centre outside the State,” the minister said. Last year, more than 1,500 students from Tamil Nadu were forced to appear for NEET exams in other states.
Claiming that about 1.17 lakh students in the State had appeared for NEET during the last year, Sengottaiyan said, “Government has also taken measures to accommodate all the candidates this year in Tamil Nadu even if the number of students appearing for NEET crosses 1.5 lakh.”
The minister also said that more than 500 schools across the State have been kept ready for the next phase of the medical entrance exam. “The State had only 212 schools as exam centres last year,” he added.
Stating that more than 16,000 medical aspirants have been trained in 419 NEET centres so far and out of total, more than 4,000 candidates, who have performed well, would be trained further for a period of about one month at various colleges after the Class 12 board exam is over.
State government initiated the free NEET coaching for students studying in state-owned schools since October. Initially, about 20,000 aspirants registered for NEET training.
This year, the government also established more than 10 NEET hostel centres where the students were offered free food and stay.
On the Class 12 board exams, the minister said this year the results will be sent through SMS within two minutes after the official announcement.
He also said that the announcement of the results for all the board exams will not be delayed and it will be delivered within the stipulated time.
