Inaugurating the scheme, Veeramani said the scheme under UIDSSMT (Urban Infrastructure Development for Small Scale and Medium Towns) would ensure that those without water connections could now get them by paying the initial deposit of Rs.13,600 in ten instalments, once in six months.
He said the local body had already chosen 6550 families who were willing to accept the new conditions. The scheme was estimated at Rs.2.30 crores, the minister said and added the scheme would ensure that water shortages were issues of the past. Those who participated include municipal commissioner Selva Balaji, municipal engineer Uma Maheswari, MLA G Loganathan and PACS (primary agricultural cooperative society) president JKN Palani. The minister earlier inaugurated a new upgraded primary health centre building.
