Ayyakannu-led outfit to contest Lok Sabha polls

The confederation of farmers association led by Thennindya Nadhigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam has decided to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and this was resolved in the state executive committee meeting of the association held here on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the state president of the association P Ayyakannu said, the meeting of the confederation of farmers association chaired by the president Sigamani was held in which the farmers discussed far and wide about the long pending demands of the farmers and the upcoming election.

The farmers demanded the profitable price for the farm produces, loan waiver and monthly pension of Rs 5000 to farmers who reached 60 years, individual insurance. “We have been fighting for our demands for years and the farmers have decided to campaign and vote against the political parties who do not accept our request. We are vexed on the political parties”, he said.

Meanwhile, Ayyakannu said, once there is no positive sign from the political parties, the farmers would select a candidate among the farmers and would certainly face the election. “We have decided to hold talks with the other farmers associations on this and several associations which we have already spoken to expressed their solidarity”, Ayyakannu said.

He also said, that the announcement would be made within a week after consulting with the other farmers associations.
