6 killed as car plunges into canal
As many as 6 members of a family were killed when the car in which they were travelling plunged into a canal near Pollachi in Coimbatore district on Wednesday.

Reports received at the police headquarters here said that the deceased included two children.
The victims were returning to their residence in Coimbatore after a pilgrimage to the Murugan temple in Palani when the incident occurred around 1.30 am.
The deceased were identified as R Prakash (45), a cable operator, his wife P Chitra (40), their daughter Pooja (8), Prakash's sister Sumathi (50), Prakash's sister-in-law P Latha (42) and her daughter Dharani (9).
As there was copious water in the canal, the car got completely submerged following which all the six in the car drowned.
On receiving information, Fire services department personnel rushed to the spot and pulled out the car.
The bodies were shifted to the government hospital for post-mortem.
