The agreement was signed between the two parties at a private hotel in Adyar in the presence of AIADMK convenor and Deputy CM O Panneerselvam, the party’s joint convenor and CM Edappadi K Palaniswami respectively and TMC chief GK Vasan. Also present during signing of the agreement were State ministers and important TMC functionaries including Gnanadesikan.
Signing of the agreement between the two parties came after prolonged talks between the leaders of TMC and AIADMK. TMC had demanded two seats but the AIADMK agreed to give only one to the party.
Negotiations finally worked and TMC agreed to settle for one seat after a seven-member team from the party held talks with AIADMK leaders on Wednesday. After signing the agreement, Panneerselvam said, “The alliance was clinched for both the Lok Sabha election and the bypolls to 18 Assembly constituencies.” Later, Vasan said, “We have signed the agreement happily. Our alliance will not just ensure a huge victory in the state, but also across the nation.”
