This, she said, has instilled fear in the minds of the people, especially women. Despite clear instructions from the court, the names of victims have been revealed in the ‘government order’ issued recently and the police were repeatedly revealing identities of victims of such incidents, she alleged.
Talking to reporters in Thoothukudi, she said it was a deliberate move by the government and the police to bully victims and discourage them from lodging complaints against the accused. She added that such incidents have been recurring for over seven years, but only four persons were held so far.
Stating there were many people behind such incidents, she said that all who were guilty should be brought to justice. It was unfortunate no woman officer was involved in the probe, she said. She said a special court should be formed to try the case. On Coimbatore SP R Pandiarajan, she said he was insensitive to issues concerning women and he must not be allowed to investigate this case.
Meanwhile, Welfare Party of India (TN) president Subramani Arumugam and supporters on Thursday submitted a petition at the DGP office demanding transfer of Pandiarajan and his deputy Jayaraman. They alleged that the police officers were functioning in favour of a few of the accused.
