However, other exams on the last day, including Botany, History, Office Management, and Accountancy and Auditing, were relatively easy, students said.

According K Geetha, a student who appeared for Business Mathematics, most of the questions were from out of portion. "Many questions were asked from general mathematics, which made it tough for many of us," she said. She also pointed out that many students were not able to write all the answers within the stipulated time, because most of the answers were lengthy.

Students who appeared for Biology, too, said there were many questions that were too tough for them. B Abinash, a science group student, added that questions from sections B and C were particularly difficult for many including him.

In all, 8.61 lakh students appeared for Class XII board exams this academic year. In Chennai alone, 49,000 students from 408 schools have appeared for the examinations.

This year, the Directorate of Examinations had established an additional 150 exam centres. A senior official from the directorate said that evaluation would begin in a few days. According to him, the results for Class 12 board exams are expected to be announced in the second week of April.
